Drafted by Cleveland in the third round (No. 94 overall) in 2005.
A member of the Canadian Junior National Team, he displayed great raw power in a predraft workout at Jacobs Field for Indians scouts. ... As a senior in high school, he hit .560 with five homers and 16 RBIs in just 25 at-bats (a very short season due to poor weather). ... played only one game in 2006 after injuring his right hand during spring training and having it linger throughout summer.
